Coriander price closed higher by 1.43 per cent on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) in spite of sluggish arrival of Agri-commodity from major producing areas. Speculators increased their holding on account of increased demand in spot market thus raising the price. At the NCDEX, coriander futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 7,207 per quintal, up by 1.43 per cent, after opening at Rs. 7,025. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 7,423. The global production of coriander seed is estimated to be around 6 lakh tones per year, of which India produces around 3 lakh tones. India is the major producer, consumer and exporter of coriander in the world.
